Prepare to have your mind fucking blown: Rum + Ginger Ale is really good. So good I can’t stop drinking it. In Panama rum is real cheap, like $6 for a 750ml bottle at the supermarket. This isn’t choke-it-down, gut-rot rum, this is grandpa’s! My rum of choice in Panama is called Abuelo. It’s only 70 proof, and a little sweet which balances the ginger nicely. Otherwise known as the Panama Canal. Basically a gigantic ship pulls up to the locks, goes down, moves forward, goes down, moves forward, goes down, and then goes out to sea. Not that exciting. A feat of modern engineering and a testament to the power of man? Sure, whatever. They have Panama beer on draft for $1.50, so its not a total loss.
The first destination for the Travel Drunks was Bocas Del Toro, a town on Isla Colon, which is island off the northeast coast of Panama. Bocas is best known for 80F tropical water, good surf, and lots of drunk people in the early to mid 20s (and it delivered on all three points). Read more...
