Go on an African Safari

IMG_0548 Since we were in Africa we figured we should go on safari, right? Turns out that South Africa alone has about a billion options for safari from private game parks to a bunch of national parks. To figure out what to do we went to one of the tour booking agencies on Long St., in Cape Town. They had lots of tour options ranging from thousands of dollars down to hundreds. We ended up on an Intrepid Kruger Adventure Tour. Four days in Kruger National Park with 2 nights of camping and one night in a lodge. The camping was deluxe: cots with mattresses, only two per tent, and there was a cook at each campsite cooking tasty African food.

I had pretty low expectations going in, but Africa really delivers on the wildlife. Fucking ridiculous amounts of every Jungle King character.

Zebra butts and a giraffe.

We ended up seeing all of the Big 5 game animals, plus a lot more. Our guide was great, the tour was great, and the weather was great. Pretty much the best ever.

(Best time of year to go to Kruger: Fall. It is cool, the bugs aren’t bad, the grass isn’t too tall, and the animals are out in the afternoon.)
