Travel Gear Review: 10 Things You Forgot to Pack
There are a bunch of little things that are really usefull to bring on the road, but easy to forget when packing. Here are some of the best things I’ve brought:
1) A good sleep sack like this one:
Premium Silk Liner by Sea To Summit
I use mine all the time, perfect as a lightweight blanket on the bus or sleeping in a hammock, and adds a little warmth in a cold sleeping bag or bed.
2) Headlamp. This is a must, I use mine constantly and I think it’s the best one I’ve ever had (pictured above):

3) Duct Tape. Bring some.
4) Rope. Something small and light like paracord is really useful for tying items to your bag, stringing up a hammock, or tying your flip flop to your foot when it blows out in the middle of nowhere. You can find it at army surplus stores, home improvement stores, or some sporting goods stores.
5) Bottle opener/bar tool. We carry 2.
6) Multi tool. This is probably marginally important, but it’s nice to have a knife, pliers, and some other simple tools handy. These can get really expensive, but the cheap ones rust up and are generally worthless, so it pays to get something in the middle. This is the one I use:
SOG S62N-CP PowerLock Multi-Tool with V-Cutter (Silver)
7) Beach Radio. I’m scared to bring electronics to the beach, but I like having some tunes. The perfect compromise is a solar/hand crank radio. It’s cheap, I haven’t killed it yet, you don’t need any batteries, and it’s small so I don’t notice it in my pack:
Pack Cover. At some point it will probably rain on you pack, and carrying a pack cover will be seem like a small price to pay compared to dealing with a bag full of wet clothes. This one packs down really small and has an attached bag to store it in:
Sea to Summit SN240 Ultra-Light Siliconized Cordura Pack Cover
9) Multi Country Outlet Converter. It’s way cheaper to buy an all-in-one than to buy them as you go. One plug to rule them all….(if you got that joke you’re a dork)
Kensington 33117 International All-in-One Travel Plug Adapter
10) More money. Budget carefully, then add about 20%. Sorry no link for this one.
